Hi Matt

Just to say great site. I've got a white DV and I got it in September. Since
then I've done 4000m and had no probs with it.

I spent 2 weeks going down through France and on down to Madrid on it, then had to find my hotel in Madrid city centre (thank God for a nimble slim DV) traffic absolute solid gridlock, had to adopt "courier" mode - up pavements etc! I then toured round the Med coast and went up to Andorra, over the Pyrinees then back up to Calais. I met all weathers and the DV never missed a beat. Excellent long distance tourer. I did up to 450 miles some days and although a bit stiff in the legs afterwards it soon disappeared when you start walking about. Keep spare clothes to a minimum and space is no problem, even with duty free stuff and prezzies.

I've got a Honda high screen, fairing lowers, Daytona heated grips (excellent) I am not sure what type of heated grips to go for. We shall see what my bank manager says next year. and a Givi top box. As I've got a white DV, I've put a red stripe along the panniers and front mudguard. It's amazing to watch the traffic almost hit kerbs as they try to get out of your way when filtering.!

Any DV owners in Essex can email me and maybe we can meet up sometime.

Regards

Colin

Matt,

Deauville riders seem to be having trouble finding neutral, often when stopping at traffic lights ,I think I know what the problem is,

when I arrive home I have a tight steep ride downhill to park on my land, and on every occasion have trouble selecting neutral at the bottom,
what I am doing is travelling in gear for 10 seconds or more with the clutch engaged [ just like you could ,stopping at lights that change to unexpected red ],
try it on your bike, it happens every time on mine/avoid coasting in gear with your clutch in to a halt, and the problem has gone.

It works finally my bike goes into neutral superb.

Matt

The site is looking good - thanks for carrying on the good work where Trevor left off.

Quick update

My Deauville has just been in for it's first service at 568 miles.
Cost was £23.79 for oil + filter.

I also got them to look at the restarting in gear issue. My bike would not restart in gear with the clutch lever pulled in after a stall.

This site allowed me to tell them that it was probably a broken microswitch. They tried to tell me that the bike would only start in neutral anyway...... but info is power and so I stuck to my guns !!. The outcome was a fault with the clutch sensor and this has been sorted under warranty.

My fuel cons. is between 55 and 65 mpg so far.

In terms of what is good.  I paid for the Honda heated grips and they are superb. My mate with a BMW K1200RS tells me that the Honda grips are far better than his BMW ones fitted to the K1200

The bike is great and I am currently encouraging a friend with a Honda CB500S to go for a new deauville at £5100, which is available locally.

Please keep me posted about any 2002 ride out plans . Can I suggest the Peak district ? This is relatively central for Eng & Wales and has some great rides.

Best wishes

Phil Hiles
